James W. Steinmeyer, age 72, of Menomonie, WI passed away Friday, March 2, 2012 at the Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie.
James Wesley Steinmeyer was born April 30, 1939 in Menomonie to Harold and Emma (Myers) Steinmeyer. He was raised on a farm in the Irvington area and attended Beaver Creek Grade School and Dunn County Aggie.
He served in the Wisconsin National Guard and was called to active duty in 1961, during the Berlin Crisis. Jim married Sheryl Schuerman on Sept. 1, 1961 in Menomonie. They made their home in the Menomonie area, and Jim worked in the heating and air conditioning business for many years and delivered propane for Skelgas until retiring. He was also a volunteer firefighter.
Jim loved watching westerns, NASCAR and was an avid Packer fan. He also enjoyed hunting especially his trips to Wyoming. Jim had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Jim is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sheryl Steinmeyer; his three children, Tammie Silsbee, Tracie (Dale) Wendt and Jamie (Kelly) Steinmeyer; grandchildren, Cody Schneider (Stephanie), Tanner Schneider (fiancé Michelle), Hannah Silsbee, Kyler Wendt, Kaeli Wendt, Sheyanne Wendt and Ashley Kennedy; and one great-granddaughter Jazaeliah Schneider. He is also survived by a sister Corine Wesley and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Jerry Lee and a sister Donna Hoyt.
The family would like to give a special thank-you to the nurses in the Special Care Unit at Mayo Clinic Health System in Menomonie and the caregivers on second floor at the Dunn County Health Care Center.
There will be a gathering to celebrate Jim's life from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2012 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie.
