Jerome "Jerry" Richard Otto age 69, of Boyceville, WI passed away Monday, July 23, 2012 at Mayo Clinic Health System – Red Cedar following a nine month battle with cancer.
Jerry was born at home near Ridgeland, WI on February 5, 1943. He graduated from Glenwood City High School in 1961. He served in the U.S. Army as an MP stationed in South Carolina from 1964-1966. Following the Army he worked as a construction worker in the Twin Cities and locally. He was an avid union member and on the Executive Board for several years. He last worked for Market and Johnson retiring from construction in 2000. He then went on to work at UW-Stout as a groundskeeper for 12 years.
He married Donna R. Jump on December 9, 1967 at The Little Brown Church in Iowa. Jerry was a man who voiced his opinion on how the Packers should be running the ball or giving advice to the Brewers through the TV. He was an avid softball player over the years playing in many leagues. He was a 7 handicap golfer and a member of Glen Hills Golf Club and Whitetail Golf Course. Jerry played many courses while on vacation and collected souvenir golf balls from the courses he played both locally and in Arizona, Hawaii, Mexico and Jamaica.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 44 years, Donna of Boyceville; one son, Sean of Menomonie; 4 grandchildren, Tre', Dacia, Vandyn and Keayn, all of Menomonie; many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives; and several "Very Special Friends". (You all know who you are.)
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Agnes Otto and one son, Cory.
There will be visitation from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Boyceville, with Pastor Tim Matthaei officiating. Burial will be in Tiffany Cemetery in Boyceville with Military Honors by Glenwood City American Legion Post 168.
The family requests a card or memorial be sent in Jerry's name rather than flowers.
