Kathryn E. Vasey, age 89, of Menomonie, WI was welcomed into heaven on Tuesday, May 29, 2012. She died peacefully at her home surrounded by family.

She was born on June 27, 1922 to Walter and Rosemae (Larrabee) Grutt in Menomonie, WI. She was the oldest of four children and the last remaining member of her immediate family. She graduated in 1940 from Dunn County Aggie School in Menomonie. On November 2, 1940 she married Clarence Vasey, Jr. In the early years of their marriage, they lived in various places in the Menomonie area as well as in Chicago, IL and Cudahy, WI before settling permanently in Menomonie. Her husband Clarence preceded her in death in 1992 and she continued living in their home until moving to her Dancing Oaks apartment in 2006.

Kathryn enjoyed keeping her home open to her family, friends, neighbors, and any others who needed a meal, a place to stay, or who wanted to play a game of chess or Rummikub. No one ever walked away from Kathryn's table hungry. She had a green thumb and was diligent in keeping up her garden, flowers and many houseplants. She wasn't afraid to work alongside the men either; whether it was roofing their home, cutting wood or doing yard work.

On Monday evening May 28th, family gathered around Kathryn to sing an old-fashioned hymn. She sang along as best as she was able to. Today she is singing in heaven with her parents, brother Delvin, sisters; Lucille and Luanne, her husband Clarence, Jr., and a son-in-law Dennis Stone.

Kathryn is survived by her four children; Kathleen (Dennis) Stone of Bettendorf, IA, Kevin (Pamela) Vasey of Menomonie, WI, Karla (Michael) Postell of Mauston, WI, Kendra (Donald) Clark of Boyceville, WI. 11 grandchildren; Jennifer (Nate) Flanders, Aaron Vasey, Angela Draeger, Ben (Brenda) Vasey, Emily, Colin, Krista and Samuel Postell, Stephanie (Abraham) Bensend, Nathan (Nicole) Clark, and Kyle (Jenna) Clark as well as13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at First Church of the Nazarene in Menomonie. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2012 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will follow at Forest Center Cemetery, Twp. Spring Brook, Dunn Co., WI.
