Larry Charles Lapp died suddenly Sunday, August 14, 2011 in Cedar Falls (rural Menomonie), at the age of 63.
Larry was born on May 13, 1948 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Lillian (Colburn) and Ivan Lapp. He grew up in Wisconsin Dells where he graduated from high school in 1966. Larry served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1971 with the Army as an artillery mechanic. Later he attended the University of Wisconsin~Stout, earning a bachelor’s degree in Vocational Education in 1979.
On May 22, 1982, Larry married Mary Maes at St. John’s Catholic Church in Glenwood City, Wisconsin. He worked for Thomas Brothers Construction as a carpenter for many years before becoming an instructor of carpentry apprenticeship at Chippewa Valley Technical College. He taught there until his retirement 5 years ago. While his sons were in middle school, Larry built the four bedroom house in Cedar Falls where he lived until his death.
Larry was an avid hunter, trapper and outdoorsman. He was active in the Dunn County Fish & Game Association having served as a past president. Also, Larry served as president of the Dunn County Rifle Range where he made many improvements.
As a father, Larry’s lesson impacted his three children. He taught them about the outdoors, sports, and carpentry. Justin went on to be an engineer, currently completing his PhD at the University of Minnesota. Dustin became a mathematician and an actuary, currently working for Aviva Life Insurance Co. in Des Moines, IA. Kristina became a biologist, currently finishing her master’s degree at the University of Wisconsin~Stevens Point.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Lillian Lapp; a nephew, John James; father-in-law, Albert Maes; and a brother-in-law, David Maes.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, August 18, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Menomonie, with Reverend Jerry Hoeser officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 PM Wednesday at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, WI and 1 hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
